Jazz is America's music and yet it may be the music that the fewest people in America know. Many people view jazz as a complex art form and while it is true that learning to play jazz music is no simple task, learning to enjoy it is not complex in the least.
Many things are said about jazz - that it is music founded on democratic principles, that it celebrates freedom, or that it is about triumph over adversity. I've said these things before myself and I think that all of it is true. But it's not enough just to say it. What does it really mean?
I've been thinking about starting this web site for years. It is my hope that it will be a place where we can all learn more about the music, a place where we can share ideas. One thing that I am sure of is that jazz is an inclusive music. It welcomes everyone and it encourages communication and community.
So welcome to the site! Check back soon as we will be adding to this section.
